I strongly recommend that you play Gears of War Ultimate Edition (remastered, with new assets and updated game mechanics) to begin, followed by Gears 2 and 3, both of which are enhanced graphically on Xbox One. Gears 3 completes the original story arc with a satisfying conclusion.

I didn't even know about gears existence until 3 was announced. edit 2: not really sure on why you guys are downvoting me for expressing my opinion. Gears Of War's original graphics felt like it was meant to be that way. The remaster still looks fantastic, don't get me wrong. But as a Veteran gears player. I find it slightly disappointing.

I will never forget just how much goddamned fun Gears of War 1, 2, and 3 were. I hopped off the hype train at Judgement, but Gears 3 made me a fan for life. Years down the road when Microsoft have stopped being absolute tools and allow older Xbox games on PC, I'll definitely be playing.
